Baseline Station Bridge

The pedestrian bridge provides a multi-user pathway connecting Algonquin College with Baseline Station. This project is part of the broader Confederation Line Stage 2 project (OLRT extension), which expands Ottawa's light rail network to the east. The bridge has four simple spans with an arrangement of 7m-42m-21.5m-8.5m of Algonquin steel trusses, featuring a 4m clear multi-user pathway. Spannovation performed the assembly and erection engineering of the 73m bridge on behalf of the erector, ES Fox.

Steel Erected: Four truss spans weighing a total of 140MT were assembled and erected.

Erection Methodology: Each truss was stick-built on temporary dunnage supports adjacent to their spans using an HTC 8675 crane and a Broderson crane. Temporary supports were set to specific elevations to facilitate the assembly of three truss sections before splicing, accounting for truss pre-camber, with the longer spans requiring 8 supports and shorter spans requiring 4. Once connected, each full truss span was secured with temporary restraints. The shorter spans 1 & 2 were lifted with a TMS 9000. Span 3, weighing 55MT, was lifted with a LINK BELT ATC 3275. The longest span, weighing 73MT, was lifted with an LTM 1400 positioned on College Road during a short closure of the roadway.
