The City of Port Moody has awarded RFP 25-32 – Barnet Highway at CPKC Seismic Retrofit and Rehabilitation Design to Spannovation Consulting Ltd., marking another significant step in the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety, network resilience, and sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Westbound Bridge – Three-span, variable-depth CIP concrete girder bridge carrying Barnet Highway WB over the CPKC rail corridor.

This assignment builds on Spannovation’s prior work conducting the Seismic Assessment of the Barnet Highway Eastbound and Westbound Bridges (2024), which identified optimal retrofit strategies to enhance structural resilience and extend the service life of these critical crossings. Under the new contract, our team will advance the project through environmental assessment, geotechnical investigation, detailed design, tender preparation, and construction support.

As Prime Consultant, Spannovation will lead a multidisciplinary team, with Ecora Engineering & Environmental providing geotechnical investigations and environmental assessment services. This collaborative framework ensures that the retrofit design integrates structural performance, environmental protection, and constructability from the earliest stages of development.

The twin bridges—vital components of Port Moody’s Major Road Network—carry Barnet Highway over the CPKC Rail corridor and form a key regional link between Burnaby, Port Moody, and Coquitlam. The seismic retrofit will strengthen these structures to current standards while supporting the City’s long-term vision for multi-modal connectivity and emergency preparedness.

This initiative is co-funded by TransLink under its 2025 Local Government Funding Program, reflecting a shared regional commitment to improving transportation resilience and active transportation safety across Metro Vancouver. Spannovation congratulates the City of Port Moody for prioritizing the renewal of critical bridge infrastructure as part of its broader efforts to enhance community safety and emergency response capabilities.

“This project represents the next chapter in Port Moody’s proactive approach to infrastructure resilience,” said Saqib Khan, P.Eng., Principal at Spannovation. “We’re honoured to continue supporting the City with practical, performance-based solutions that enhance safety, sustainability, and readiness for future seismic events.”

This award reinforces Spannovation’s growing role as a trusted partner for municipal bridge renewal and seismic resilience projects across British Columbia.
